Skin and Hair tips

Girlface

Using an eyeshadow pencil...

You should not draw the pencil across your eyelid as this could cause stretching of the skin.
Instead, apply the color to the palm of your hand, then pick up some of the color with your pinky and apply gently to your eyelid.

Younger looking eyes...

The first step is to reduce fine lines. So apply a little eye cream on the brow bone and under the eye. Next dab on a concealer that matches your skin tones. The last step is to line the eye with a white pencil just beneath the lash line. This will give the impression of larger and brighter eyes.

So the eyeliner is too harsh?

If you don't like the sharpness of your eyeliner, you can soften it using your eye shadow brush by adding a little powder shadow of a similar shade.

Brow Color

Did you know that brows should be a little lighter than your hair color? Yes, it's true...about two shades. However, if you are blond or gray, the opposite is true.

Eyebrow Shape

Did you know that your eyebrow is supposed to start directly above the inner corner of your eye? The highest point should be just a little beyond the outer corner of the iris and should taper off to the end! OK, so now you know

Keep them in place...

If you are having trouble taming your brows, here is a little trick: Take a toothbrush and spray with a little hair spray and then brush on brows. The stickiness of the hair spray will help keep them in place.

A nice contour

This is an alternative to tweezing. Brush them up so that the really long hairs will be very visible. Instead of tweezing and creating a hole, snip it with a pair of tiny scissors. Works wonderfully

About hairsprays

Nowadays hair sprays are light and water soluable. Brushing can generally remove the residue.
They come in a variety of "holding abilities". You just have to find the spray that will give the the hold you need. It makes wearing an updo so much easier

Before you color your hair...

Well, the week before you color you hair, make sure to really condition the ends so that they don't absorb too much color during the process.
The reason? The ends of your hair are usually the most porous and have a tendency to really soak up color.

Boost the shine of your hair

Once your hair is completely dry, finish it off with a cool blast of air to seal the cuticle. The reason? If the cuticles are ragged, there is no shine...

Foods that seem to be harmful to your hair

There are some foods that you should avoid and replace them with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Why? To ensure that the hair that is forming beneath the surface of your scalp is healthy.
So, the foods to avoid include too many sweets, chocolate, cakes and cookies. Unfortunately, these favorites simply don't help your hair.

Have a fuller head of hair

Try a little scalp massage to stimulate hair growth. It not only feels wonderful, it's good for you, too. Oh yes, the feeling is just, aaah, you have to do it!

Hair color mistakes

The worst thing you can do if you color your own hair is to apply the permanent color throughout your hair every time you color.
The reason? It makes the hair more porous with the repeated colorings and it grabs more color giving you uneven color. Also, it is not healthy for your hair.
So try a semi permanent color instead, if you don't have the time to do the job properly.

Hair drying and the brush

The worst thing you can do if you color your own hair is to apply the permanent color throughout your hair every time you color.
You know how vulnerable your hair is while it is wet. Using the brush can really do some damage.
So, after you shampoo your hair, blot it dry with a towel and then try to detangle it with your fingers. Don't use the brush! This is the time when you can stretch the strands and weaken them to the point where they snap.
When you brush your wet hair you can also cause frizzing to occur. Don't pick up the brush until your hair is somewhere between damp and dry and then use the blow dryer and a round brush until it is styled and completely dry.

Bigger volume of hair

Do you have long hair and you'd like more volume?
Towel your hair dry and then it pull up on the top of your head. Secure with a fat "elastic" (that won't damage or crease your hair ) and then blow dry the scalp hair until it is dry.
This will give you plenty of volume with little effort.

Have your hair style last longer

You probably noticed that when you go to the salon to have your hair done, it seems to last for days at a time.
The reason for this is that the stylist has taken a great deal of time and care to style it right on day one.
So the next time you wash your hair, schedule the time to carefully blow dry it, set it etc. A quick wash and go just isn't the same thing.

Permanent color and your hair

The permanent color will penetrate the inner core of the hair strand and will not wash away as with a semi-permanent color that will wash out after a number of shampoos.
This varies, however, so be sure to check the box for this information.

Have shiny hair

Did you know that your hair needs Vitamin E for shine?
You can get this much needed vitamin by incorporating brown rice, nuts, wheat germ and leafy green vegetables into your diet.

More on shiny hair

Did you know that avocado was good for your hair? Yes, it is!
So mash up an avocado with a tablespoon of olive oil and a tsp of baking powder. Mix this until well combined and then work the mixture through your hair.
Go and surf this site for about 15 minutes and then wash out.

Stress And Your Hair

Stress: the universal culprit
Apparently stress can affect your hair as well.
Any tension/stress can bring about disorders of the scalp . This could be a cause of the dandruff you have been fighting

Hand Massage

To stimulate circulation, rub your palm over the back of the hand and then repeat with the other hand.
This movement is very similar to washing your hands and it does not only stimulate circulation, it also warms the hands.

Soft Hands

So your hands don't feel soft anymore?
Before you go to bed, lavish on the Vaseline and then pop on a pair of cotton gloves. Your hands will be incredibly soft by morning.

Too much water and chemicals

Get into the habit of wearing rubber gloves when you do any cleaning around the house.
The reason? Cleaning agents can be extremely harsh on both nails and hands. The nails when exposed to water, swell and then shrink back as they dry. This contributes to brittle nails

Fuller upper lip

Not happy with your upper lip?
Outline the lips with a pencil that is the same shade as your lips. Then, on the center of the upper lip, use a brown pencil and draw a second line. Apply lip color and the brown will blend right in... but your top lip will definitely look fuller.

Get rid of lip lines

Small blemishes in the form of lip lines can be annoying...
To make them less noticeable, here's the trick to try. Instead of applying your lipstick horizontally, apply it vertically.

The elegant choice

Choosing the right lipstick color is not as easy as it seems...
You have found a gorgeous shade of lipstick on a model in a magazine and you instantly run out and buy it. You spend a small fortune on the color and when you get home, you realize it looks terrible on you. The lipstick was a complete waste of money.
To avoid this trap, make an appointment at one of those cosmetic salons that will assist you in your color choices. That's their job, after all! Let them suggest colors to you, try them out and if you like it, then you buy. It's as simple as that.

Red lipstick, is it for you or not?

You bought red lipstick...but many times you found that the shade just wasn't right for you. Perhaps most of the time it was just too bright for your skin tones.
Triy adding a little brown to your red. It tends to tone down the brightness. Experiment a little. You will have lots of fun and create signature colors that are all your own.
If you manage to make/mix up the perfect color for yourself and you don't want to continue mixing your own color, take a sample to the mall with you and find a red that is as close as possible to the shade that you created.
